A Catered Affair 
|
Set in the Bronx in 1953, A Catered Affair reveals relationships strained to their limits when a couple must decide whether to spend their life savings on a family business or to launch their only daughter's marriage with a lavish catered affair—the grand wedding they never had. Four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein's book and John Bucchino's score explore the meaning of family and the need for love, both new and reawakened. Fierstein also stars alongside a cast of musical pros including Tony winner Faith Prince and Tony nominee Tom Wopat as the struggling parents.
Based on The Catered Affair, a 1956 movie written by Gore Vidal from an original teleplay by Paddy Chayefsky, this funny, heartwarming new musical is uplifting for audiences of all ages.

And would you believe the building's superintendent is Gary Coleman?!? (Yes, that Gary Coleman.) Together, Princeton and his newfound friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life.

GYPSY (starring Patty LuPone) 
Set during the vaudeville era, Gypsy is about a relentless stage mother, Rose, traveling the country with her two daughters, June and Louise, and their manager, Herbie. While June and Louise wish their mother would settle down and marry Herbie, Rose continues to pursue dreams of stardom for her girls. When June deserts the act, Rose turns her attention to the shy Louise, whom she hopes to fashion into a star. When the act is booked into a burlesque house by mistake, Louise is forced into the spotlight and Gypsy Rose Lee is born.
This staging of Gypsy was first seen as part of New York City Center's new Encores! Summer Stars series.
Hairspray

The show burst upon the theater scene after its creator, Larson, died suddenly on the eve of the show's first performance off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop in January 1996. The show then opened to raves on Broadway, winning that year's Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. New York Times critic Ben Brantley raved that Rent "shimmers with hope for the future of the American musical." CLOSES SEPTEMBER, 2008.
South Pacific
Kelli O'Hara stars in the first Broadway revival of this classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical.
Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific is set on a tropical island in the Pacific during World War II, where US Navy nurse Nellie Forbush falls in love with local plantation owner Emile De Becque. Meanwhile, Lt. Joe Cable has fallen in love with young Liat, daughter of the irrepressible Bloody Mary. Both couples' happiness is threatened by the realities of the war and by their own prejudices. Also on the island are dozens of locals and Navy, all of whom seem to break into glorious song and dance at just the right moments.
Bartlett Sher directs this revival, the first time South Pacific has been seen on Broadway since its premiere in 1949. The original production garnered extraordinary acclaim and countless awards including nine Tonys and a Pulitzer Prize. The revival includes such classic songs as "Some Enchanted Evening," "Bali Ha'i," "A Wonderful Guy," and "Nothing Like a Dame."
Spamalot
Telling the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and the quest for the Holy Grail in song, Monty Python's Spamalot features "a chorus line of legless knights, men in tights (with legs), killer rabbits and sexy dancing divas." The production also promises "some of the most unforgettable musical numbers you will ever see in the theater on this evening!"
Spring Awakening 
Based on Frank Wedekind's controversial 19-century play, which was banned for 71 years, Spring Awakening boldly depicts how young people navigate the thrilling, confusing and mysterious time of their sexual awakening. Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater's songs illuminate the volatile urgency of adolescent self-discovery, the burning intensity of early friendships and the turbulent relationship to an uncomprehending adult world. The story centers around a brilliant young student named Melchior, his troubled friend Moritz and Wendla, a beautiful young girl on the verge of womanhood. Although the musical is set in the distant past, the score is fresh, modern and exciting—and so is the multitalented cast.
